Membership Categories:

Physician / Medical Student Memberships

Regular Member: A general surgeon who is one of the following:

• Certified by the American Board of Surgery
• Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery
• Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
• Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has performed a minimum of 25 bariatric procedures as the primary surgeon within the past two years

Affiliate Surgeon Member: A general surgeon who is NOT one of the following:

• Certified by the American Board of Surgery
• Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery
• Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
• Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and/or has NOT performed a minimum of 25 bariatric procedures as the primary surgeon.

Affiliate Physician Member: A medical doctor who is not a bariatric surgeon.

Medical  Student/Resident/Fellow

Allied Health Memberships

Associate Member: Allied Health Care Professionals working in the field of bariatric surgery (i.e., professional nurse, psychologist, dietitian, physician assistant).

Affiliate Associate Member: Persons actively employed in a bariatric surgical practice or hospital based bariatric program who do not otherwise meet the requirements for Associate membership.
